Explore a Bishop pine forest and learn about the fire ecology of this species.

Beginning with the Jepson Trail, we’ll go for a late season ramble through the Bishop pine forest. The focus will be identifying the trees and shrubs of this beautiful, mature forest and discussing the fire ecology of the Bishop pine, endemic to Alta and Baja California. This species exhibits interesting variation on the Point Reyes Peninsula.

If we are lucky, there will still be some huckleberries to munch on as we go.

After breaking for lunch at pretty Pebble Beach, we will return via the Johnson Trail.

Meet at the dirt parking area at the top of the road to Shallow Beach, located on Pierce Point Road 0.2 miles before the turn off for Heart’s Desire Beach.

Find a complete plant list here.
