Chapter Meeting – Monday, November 9, 2015

November 9, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 11:59 pm

“Some Plants from the Land of Linnaeus”

Guest Speaker – Eva Buxton

For more detail, see here.

Carl von Linne is known as the “King of Flowers” in Sweden. Also considered the “Father of Botany,” Linnaeus was convinced that God had created all species and his own role was to classify plants. He created classes based on the number of stamens and within classes orders based on the number of pistils. Binomial nomenclature is considered his greatest contribution to botany. During his life Linnaeus described approximately 9,000 plant species. Plants native to Sweden will be highlighted in this talk.
Eva Buxton has a M.A. in Systematic Biology and Ecology with emphasis in botany. Her most recent publication is a description of a meadowfoam from San Mateo County. She is the Conservation Chair for the Marin Chapter of the CNPS and also volunteers for other environmental organization in Marin.
