Calochortus tiburonensis

Vernon Smith
Calochortus tiburonensis

The Tiburon Mariposa Lily can be found blooming in late May through mid-June camouflaged among serpentine rocks and grasses on Ring Mountain on the Tiburon Peninsula in Marin County, California. It is sometimes easier to spot the leaf than the blossom. Look for the single long, thin, shiny, and pointed leaves of green turning to bronze. As you may be able to see in the lower left photograph below, the sides of the leaves are rolled under and the underside surface of the leaf is a dull green.
